The Ford Mustang created the "Pony Car" class of american cars. With the sports car-like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks that gave rise to competitors like the Chevrolet Camaro, AMC Javelin and Plymouth Barracuda. The Mustang was introduced to the public in April of 1964 at the New York World's Fair. It is Ford's third oldest nameplate currently in production.Although the Mustang has grown larger and heavier with serval platform generations and designs, the Mustang is the only original "Pony Car" to remain in uninterrupted production over four decades.
